Hello friends,
Happy summertime! Over here at the Brew Crew we are welcoming in our first day of summer vacation. Our rascals just get 4 weeks of summer break due to their year round school but don't feel sorry for them for even though they're headed back to school the last week in July they will enjoy a lovely 3 weeks off in October, January, and March.
I am super excited to share a recent room transformation with you. I believe we might be grown ups at last....we finally have an official dining room. See, our real dining room is my home office so the small room next to it in the front of our house we were using as a living room which really means we never used it except at Christmas time when our tree was in there.
Here's our new dining room (please ignore the painting touch ups that still have to happen, I was just so excited to share despite the fact that the finishing touches need to be done):
We chose a 60 inch diameter gray finish round table from Ballard Designs. Basically this small room is a square so we thought a round table would work best and be good for conversations at the table. Right now, we just have 4 chairs around it but can pull in 2-4 more depending on what we need. I was a little nervous about buying a table online without touching it and seeing it in person but we read the reviews and with a coupon decided to go for it. I would honestly report that I'm happier with it than I imagined.
We kept our black and white photo gallery of family beach pictures and even added another column on the left hand side.
This sweet watercolor is very special to us as my husband picked up along his walking journey, Camino de Santiago, through Spain.
So, what do you think? Do you have a dining room? Do you use it often? In the last two days since we have had a dining room, I've sat in there to work and eat. I think it's our 'pretty room' in our house.
Thanks for joining me today. I plan on sharing new blog posts every day this week as I'm taking the week off from work.
Happy Summer!
Here's my girl, almost third grader, Bryce with me in matching sundresses that we made yesterday. You wouldn't believe how simple this project was! The fabric comes already made to be a dress- you just have to cut it to your size and sew one line. Easy scheemzie!
Happy decorating and living,

Hi friends,
Thanks so much for stopping by today! I've been so bummed that I haven't had the time or energy to post lately. Too much work and traveling but....ahhhhh....here I am today sharing an update. So happy to be with you!
First things first, I hope you had a wonderful and blessed Easter. We are psyched from our eat in kitchen:
Here's our little Easter tree purchased for mere dollars from the local Goodwill:
My little bunnies and colorful sheep purchased from our local grocery store, Harris Teeter, plus another little Easter tree and one of my all time very favorite classic Easter stories, The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes:
Cute little stackable wooden Easter eggs:
Homemade Easter paper garland:
Easter cards from family on display in hallway:
By the way, my handy husband finished painting the family room (remember it had brown walls and brown ceiling). What do you think now?
In case you're wondering, the paint color is Bay Waves from Valspar (I wonder if we are influenced by the names of paint colors? YES!):
You might have noticed we did add some new striped panel tan and white curtains in the room as well as brought down a bench from our bedroom to add to this room. We're really happy with how much brighter the room seems now that the light crisp blue walls and white ceiling have been added.
Next, we are going to repaint our living room a lighter tan with touches of green and gray and find a rustic round table for this room to make it our dining room to sit 8-10 comfortably.
We plan on keeping the: rug, curtains, chandelier, beach themed black and white photo wall and 2 chairs.
Need: distressed round table and a few more chairs plus fresh paint job.
Before:
After photos: TBD
Lastly, I wanted to share with you a mirror that I gave new life to in our house. Previously this small round mirror was a bronze color and had been banned to the attic. I painted it bright blue and hot glued starfish all around the perimeter to give it new life. Here it is in my home office:
Thanks so much for stopping by today friends. I hope that you have a fantastic week and notice all types of spring coming to life around you where ever you live and are filled with gratitude.
Happy decorating & living,
Megan
Dear friends,
Thanks for stopping by! Today's blog post is a dreamy one for me. My husband and I are talking about changing the purpose of one of our rooms.
Currently, in our house this is our small living room:
And this is our dining room:
Yep, our 'real' dining room was sacrificed so that I could have a home office and the kids also have a place to do homework/crafts/play on family computer.
My husband and I have been talking and honestly in the last 3 years since moving into this house we haven't missed having a dining room BUT lately we've been thinking that moving forward we might like to have a dining room. We are thinking that if we have a dining room we:
-would have a larger space to host dinner parties
-have a larger space to host family get togethers like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.
-have a larger space to do puzzles, play dominoes, etc.
Currently, this is where we host dinner parties, Christmas dinner, etc. in our eat-in kitchen:
Our little family of four loves having dinner together here nightly and the size works perfectly for us. But, it is a very tight fit for a group of 6 or more.
We honestly don't use our living room much at all. Occasionally we will curl up in there to read but that's about it besides December when we remove most of the furniture and put our Christmas tree in there:
Now, we are seriously considering repurposing this room as our dining room. We are thinking that we will use it more in that format.
All of the furniture in there can easily find other places in our home to go. I think we would keep the rug and the curtains. I still love the 'beach photo wall' so it will either stay in place or move to another location in the home.
Here are some inspiration dining rooms that I found on Pinterest:
I really like this one especially the light fixture but I would want it with a round table:
I really like the chairs in this one:
I like this one but it is too rustic for our space:
I like elements of this one too:
What do you think? Do you have a dining room? If so, honestly how often do you use it?
My next two considerations will be IF we really do this:
1. What color to paint the room?
2. Where will our Christmas tree go next year? (it most likely would not fit in that space with a large table)
What are you currently having a design dilemma about?
Happy decorating & living,
Megan
