Small town kind of 4th of July

After 20 years of living in the Washington, D.C. area we have now settled in a 'small town' outside of Raleigh, NC. In the DC area we had some wonderful 4th of July celebrations. By far, some of my favorite memories were of being on my dad's boat on the Potomac River watching the fireworks being shot out from our Nation's Capitol.

But, there's something sweet and special about celebrating our country's birthday in small, Southern town. Here's the parade that we experienced this morning in Apex, North Carolina, our new hometown:

My 5 year old daughter, Bryce, made this American flag on her own and wanted to carry it around the parade which I thought was very sweet. She really likes to participate in holidays:

It was hot, hot, hot.....ice cream was definitely in order:

The bike riders in the parade:

Tonight, we're off to watch the fireworks near Regency Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Happy 4th of July to everyone! Be safe & cool!
