Steve and Megan do Scrub Island, BVI

Hi friends,
So now the secret locale of where Steve and I have been the last week is out. Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands. Our day started in North Carolina with us getting up about 3:30am to make our 6:00am flight to Washington, DC Dulles Airport. From there we flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico- not a bad flight at all, took about 3 1/2 hours- just enough time to eat, watch a movie, and read. Then, we had to wait 4 HOURS for our flight to Tortola. 4 HOURS waiting in the airport in San Juan. We passed that time by playing cards and eating again. Finally, we boarded the plane for a very short flight to Tortola where we had a 3 minute cab ride to the dock and our resort's ferry picked up us. We had enough time on the dock to get a drink. Ah! After 12 hours traveling, a much needed drink.

Here we are waiting for the ferry to take us to our resort on Scrub Island.

Here I am on the ferry. The ride from Tortola to Scrub Island on the boat is just about 10 minutes.

Then, we got to Scrub Island where they meet you at the dock with a drink. Another ah!!!! As we checked in (now remember, we are using Marriott Rewards Points so this is already a sweet deal for us!), we learn that they've upgraded us from a king bedroom to a suite (complete with larger, much larger balcony with a 180 degree view of the islands, a beautifully appointed kitchen, living room, two bathrooms, living room, washer/dryer (I love that part!), and of course the bedroom. Steve was in shock!

Thanks for joining me friends. Stop back by in a day or so and I'll share what activities we did on the island.

The Big Reveal

Hi friends,
Thanks for joining me today. How are you? How is your week going?

Ah, it's good to be back home from a week in paradise. Honestly, how much relaxing can one girl take? 4 days of fun in the sun was perfect (plus two traveling days). Ready and rejuvenated to get back into kids, school, work, life, etc.

So, where were we? Scrub Island. Scrub Island? you say. Where the heck is that? You've never heard of it? We hadn't either! We learned about Scrub Island while researching beach resorts affliated with Marriott hotels so we could use our Marriott Reward points.

Scrub Island is in the British Virgin Islands. Good thing I got my passport renewed because you need it to travel here. The resort is the only thing on this small island. The resort just opened two years ago so everything is pretty and new.

You can fly into Tortola which we did or St. Thomas and take a ferry boat ride over to Scrub Island. The resort has ferries running back and forth every hour which is a complimentary service for it's guests.

Stop back by in a day or so and I'll share what activities my husband Steve and I engaged in while on our beach getaway to Scrub Island. I'll post some photos of us too in this awesome location and tell you more about it.

Save those Marriott Reward points! They add up! All we had to pay for was a $50 a day Resort Room Tax and of course, our food and tropical drinks (oh! those tropical drinks). More about that in my next posting.

Take care friends. Thanks again for joining me today.

What's on your Places to Visit Bucket List?

Hi friends,
Today's post will explain why I will be MIA for the next week or so. I feel like I've been doing a lot of explaining lately why I keep disappearing....business trips, spring break, work, blah, blah, blah..... I promise my life completely returns to a normal life of work, school, and home very soon (at least for a short while).

Have you ever made a bucket list for the places that you want to travel?

Maybe I should start with this question instead: Do you like to travel?

Now, on to the follow-up question, have you ever made a list of places you want to visit on this huge gorgeous planet of ours?

Well, my husband and I did. We both love to travel. I remember on our first date together at a Japanese restaurant in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, watching him and listening to him explain a pilgrimage through Spain he was planning to make on foot along the Camino de Santiago in a few months. I still remember today hearing the passion in his voice about this journey he was about to take. (He did take it and we got engaged right afterwards.) I was definitely attracted to this man who was as equally passionate about traveling as I was.

Well, back to us. After we became "a couple" we both made our own separate bucket list of places we wanted to visit and then compared our lists.

(That isn't me above. Isn't it interesting that I couldn't find an image of a "man making a list". Don't men make lists besides the ones that the women in their lives make them make? Maybe not.)

Here's Steve and I during our brief dating phase. This photo is actually from our "Match.com Success Story". We got engaged months after meeting and were married during that year. What can I say? At 35 years of age, when you know, you know. You know?

Anyway, back to our list.....guess what place we both had at the top of our list?

Yes, Italy! But, we are not going to Italy. We started to plan an Italian getaway....asking friends who have traveled there for advice, filling out the paperwork to get my passport renewed, checking out how we could use hotel/flight points we've accumulated from our business trips, and checking out travel websites.....

Then, I started to have major anxiety over ALL there is to see in Italy. I mean, there is A LOT to see in Italy people!!!!! I started to share these thoughts with my husband. I DO want to go to Italy but I wasn't feeling up for it at this particular moment in time. I started dreaming of relaxing in a warm locale by the beach and the pool, drinking tropical fruity drinks, reading awesome books on my Kindle, eating some amazing seafood, and getting out and about for an adventure or two that involves my scuba mask. Luckily, I married an amazing, understanding, and flexible man. He understood that we will see Italy someday but he was open to a more relaxing, rejuvenating vacation this time around.

Where are we leaving at 4am for tomorrow morning?

Here's a hint, I did need my passport after all.

Stop back by soon and I'll share where we are.

Surf's up!

Hi friends,
Surf's up for this little surfer dude!

We are currently working on redoing our little surfer dude's bedroom. This was his room a month ago. We got rid of the green paint and the car/transportation border:

This is his room now. My husband painted it the same Valspar's Shark Loop blue that is in our master bedroom.

You can't tell in the photo above but the little colorful lanterns light up- it's a great nightlight at night.

Did you notice this wall? It is currently under construction. A magnetic chalkboard is going to be added to this wall very soon:

Did you notice the disaster that happened at the train table? Maybe a hurricane or a tornado came through!

Here's a fun purchase from Craig's List that we're considering. We could prop it up in the corner of his room or maybe mount it on the wall. What do you think?

Now, of course, my daughter keeps asking us when we're going to 'spice up' her room! She's definitely my daughter! We are thinking about this decorating project for possibly this summer.

Thanks for joining me today friends. I hope you're having a super start to your week.

Hi friends,
Thanks for your patience while we have been on spring break at the beach and I've been working in Columbia, South Carolina. I promise a new post in the next day or so. My husband was at it again busy painting while I was away on business. I can't wait to share.

Hope you all are well.
