Tips for a Relaxing Bedroom

Our tips for a relaxing bedroom retreat:

1. Choose a color palette that is relaxing to you. We chose blue like the rest of our house. No brainer there.

2. No tv. Too simulating. Keeps us up too late then we are too cranky the next day. This is our retreat at the end of the day to read or talk or occasionally watch a show on our ipads.

3. No exercise equipment. Again, too simulating and too unattractive. It has to find another home in our home.

4. Sitting options are a must. Sofa. Loveseat. Chair. You pick it. A place to curl up besides the bed and read alone or with kids.

5. Keep is simple and sweet. Choose items that matter to you. What matters to me: books, pottery from the beach, photos of family.

6. No kids in the bed. As the kids are getting older, 8 and 6 years old, this one is actually happening now. We got a king size bed so that we would have adequate room when this does happen. But of course, when they do crawl in bed with us, they sleep beside us like a magnet.

Here's our bedroom....

Details:
-You can't really tell what the curtains are like in these photos. But they're black out curtains, good for sleeping, creamy white with light blue stripes.
- Inexpensive artwork: 3 card shells frames.
-Sweet round rattan glass table found at local Goodwill. I covered an old ottoman with fabric I liked.
-I made the shell mirror. All furniture (except bed) purchased at thrift stores.
-Favorite things: pottery from the beach, books, and family photos.
-I covered the lampshade with fabric I liked.

Here's a peak at our newly freshly painted entryway:

I made the shell mirror, recovered an ugly bench, and the small ocean life artwork are cards:

Thanks so much for joining me today friends.

Husband's Home Office

Hey again friends,
Two blog posts in a row! This is a miracle! Miracles are happening all around here for sure!

Thanks for checking out our new grown up dining room yesterday. Today I wanted to share with you a room that got relocated over 6 months ago and I never shared it with you. My husband's home office used to be located over the garage in a very large space upstairs. He had the brainstorm to relocate it right off of our kitchen/entry to the garage before Christmas this past year for two reasons which made a lot of sense:

1. Our guest room would now move upstairs over the garage to a large space where our family would be much more comfortable (I will share that space this week too).

2. Because his office was so removed from the rest of our main living space he hardly went up there. Now he's finding due to it's convenient location, he pops in his office easily to work. Plus when he gets up before the rest of the Brew Crew in the morning, he has a quiet space to work away from us sleepy heads.

Bonus: We put a family computer in his office too that the kids can play on (code: we can keep an eye on them and monitor their electronic time).

Double Bonus: Now's the dog's cage/food and water bowls have a home away from sight.

Here's husband's newly relocated home office:

He recently painted the room from a brown to a warm gray. He got the large map as a Father's day gift. You might remember the blue striped curtains from my home office (I painted the blue stripes on old white curtains).

Here's our entrance to the garage that husband recently redid and reorganized. Usually it holds the kids' backpacks for school. I just wrote the July schedule on it this morning. Happy Summer Y'all!

One last peek at husband's home office.....
